Thomas Tuchel has defended his decision to call up Trevoh Chalobah to England’s 2026 FIFA World Cup squad after Tino Livramento was ruled out through injury.
Livramento suffered a training injury before England’s opening match against Croatia, forcing him to withdraw from the tournament.
Chalobah was drafted in as his replacement, with Tuchel choosing the Chelsea defender instead of recalling Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Tuchel’s decision was based on squad balance. Chalobah’s arrival allows Jarell Quansah to focus on covering right-back, while Djed Spence remains available to cover both flanks.
Livramento’s injury is expected to keep him out for four to five weeks.
