Real Madrid have agreed to sign Dutch defender Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan, confirmed top transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano with his signature “HERE WE GO” announcement.
Transfer Details
- Player: Denzel Dumfries (29 years old, Netherlands)
- From: Inter Milan → Real Madrid
- Fee: €20 million (release clause)
- Contract Status: Personal terms accepted, deal closed
- Next Steps: Formal paperwork to follow
Real Madrid contacted Dumfries’ camp on June 2 and reached an agreement. The Dutch right-back has chosen Madrid over Liverpool, who had been interested in the player under former manager Arne Slot.
Dumfries will replace right-back Dani Carvajal, who left Real Madrid after the season. Incoming manager José Mourinho approved the signing.
Dumfries joined Inter Milan in 2021 from PSV Eindhoven for €14.25 million. This season, despite injury problems, he scored 5 goals and provided 2 assists in 28 appearances, helping Inter win both Serie A and the Coppa Italia.
His contract at Inter runs until summer 2028, but his €20 million release clause activated this summer. Madrid will trigger the clause without needing to negotiate with Inter.
With personal terms finalized and the deal technically complete, Dumfries will officially join Real Madrid soon after the club’s presidential election. The transfer awaits only formal administrative completion.
