Lloris Welcomes Son Heung-Min to LAFC: Transfer Details & Impact

Son Heung-Min LAFC Transfer: Lloris Welcomes Former Spurs Captain to Los Angeles

Son Heung-Min LAFC transfer news has sent shockwaves across the football world, marking one of Major League Soccer’s most high-profile signings ever. The South Korean superstar, formerly captain at Tottenham Hotspur, has officially joined Los Angeles FC (LAFC) in a move reportedly worth over $26.5 million — a new league record.

This transfer doesn’t just add world-class talent to MLS; it reunites Son with his long-time Spurs teammate Hugo Lloris, who joined LAFC ahead of the 2024 season.

Lloris on Reuniting With Son Heung-Min

Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris expressed his excitement at seeing Son in LAFC colors.

“It’s amazing to be together again,” Lloris said. “It’s a new chapter with the same ambitions and motivation.”

The two shared nearly nine years at Tottenham, appearing together in almost 300 matches and reaching the 2019 UEFA Champions League final. When Lloris left Spurs, Son inherited the captain’s armband, continuing his leadership on and off the pitch.

A New Era for LAFC

Son arrives in Los Angeles under contract until at least 2027, while Lloris has a club option for 2026. The French goalkeeper believes Son’s arrival will have a huge impact on MLS.

“He’s a competitor, a leader, and one of the most respected players worldwide,” Lloris noted. “His work ethic and professionalism will inspire everyone here.”

During his decade at Tottenham, Son became one of the Premier League’s most feared forwards, earning global recognition for his skill, speed, and consistency.

Why the Son Heung-Min LAFC Transfer Matters

The Son Heung-Min LAFC transfer is not just a boost for the club but for the league as a whole. His signing could attract more global attention to MLS, similar to the impact of other marquee signings like Lionel Messi at Inter Miami.

For LAFC, Son brings not just goals and assists but also a proven winning mentality. His presence is expected to help the club in their push for the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs and future silverware.

Looking Ahead

Reunited after a year and a half apart, Lloris and Son are ready to write a new chapter in their football journey — this time in black and gold.

“It’s like we never left each other,” Lloris said. “Sonny is pure sunshine. He’s positive, driven, and ready to compete. This is a massive addition for our team.”
