UEFA Confirms New Kick-Off Time for 2026 UCL Final

UEFA has confirmed a major change to the Champions League final starting from the 2025/26 season. The final, set for May 30, 2026, at the Puskás Arena in Budapest, will kick off at 5pm UK time instead of the traditional 8pm slot. UEFA says the move is aimed at improving the fan experience, travel logistics, and global broadcast reach.

UEFA Changes Champions League Final Kick-Off Time

The 2026 Champions League final in Budapest will begin three hours earlier than usual. Since 2010, the final has always kicked off at 8pm on a Saturday, but UEFA has decided to move the start time to 5pm.

The governing body said the change was made to “enhance the overall matchday experience for fans, teams, and host cities.”

Why UEFA Made the Switch

UEFA explained that an earlier kick-off makes it easier for families and children to attend, while also helping travelling fans return home more conveniently using public transport.

The shift also takes into account global broadcasting, opening the final to wider audiences, including younger viewers in different time zones.

The decision also reflects lessons learned after logistical issues and safety concerns in recent finals, such as the 2022 clash between Liverpool and Real Madrid in Paris.

Quotes From UEFA and Supporters

UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin said:

“With this change, we are placing the fans’ experience at the heart of our planning. The earlier kick-off will make the Champions League final more accessible, inclusive, and impactful for everyone involved.”

Football Supporters Europe (FSE) also welcomed the decision. Executive Director Ronan Evain praised the move, noting it makes day trips more feasible, reduces travel stress, and ensures a safer, more enjoyable atmosphere for supporters.
