Barcelona have had an opening bid rejected for Colorado Rapids defender Lucas Herrington, according to The Athletic.
The 18-year-old centre-back is currently with Australia at the World Cup and is hoping to make his tournament debut against the United States.
Sources briefed on the situation told The Athletic that Barcelona’s offer did not meet Colorado’s valuation of the player. The MLS club are not under pressure to sell and negotiations are not active at this stage.
Herrington joined Colorado after the club moved early to sign him from Brisbane Roar before European interest intensified.
The defender is regarded as one of the most promising young centre-backs in the game and has attracted attention from several top clubs.
Liverpool have also sent scouts to watch Herrington this season, according to the report.
“He is an exceptionally talented young man with the world at his feet,” Rapids president Pádraig Smith told Yahoo! Sports.
Herrington has impressed in MLS this season and is currently representing Australia at the 2026 World Cup.
