Atlético Mineiro have completed the signing of former Manchester United midfielder Fred, bringing the Brazil international back to his homeland after 11 years in Europe.
Fred, 33, arrives from Fenerbahçe after the Turkish club mutually terminated his contract. Atlético will pay around €2 million for the transfer, with a further €500,000 potentially due in bonuses.
The midfielder has agreed a contract with Atlético running until the end of 2029 and will take the No. 7 shirt. His return also represents a homecoming, with Fred having spent part of his youth career at the club.
Fred joined Fenerbahçe from Manchester United in 2023 and spent three seasons with the Turkish side. During that spell, he recorded 129 appearances, 12 goals and 21 assists.
Before moving to Turkey, Fred represented Manchester United after joining the English club from Shakhtar Donetsk. He also featured for Brazil at the 2022 World Cup.
His latest move brings an end to his 11-year spell playing in Europe and sees him return to Atlético Mineiro, the club where his football journey included part of his youth career.
