Kylian Mbappe scored a hat-trick in Real Madrid’s 5-0 Champions League win over Kairat Almaty on Tuesday, but the French forward still left the pitch “angry” at not converting all his opportunities. The 26-year-old, now on 13 goals for the season, insisted that ruthless finishing is exactly what he was signed to deliver.

“It’s normal that I get angry about mistakes,” Mbappe told reporters. “A player like me with five chances… I want to score five goals. That’s why Madrid bought me. Three is great, but I could have scored more. I’m going to work to be more efficient in front of goal.”

The forward credited Thibaut Courtois for setting up his second strike with a pinpoint long pass, joking: “He scored 80% of the goal, and I scored 20.” Mbappe also praised young teammate Arda Guler, highlighting their growing connection on the pitch.

Real Madrid’s dominant victory helped them bounce back from last weekend’s 5-2 derby defeat to Atletico Madrid, which ended their seven-game winning streak and allowed Barcelona to climb to the top of La Liga. With Villarreal up next, Xabi Alonso will hope Mbappe’s form in Europe carries over into domestic action.
