Ousmane Dembele has asked Paris Saint-Germain for a new contract and pay rise to reflect his Ballon d’Or-winning status, according to L’Équipe.

The French winger currently earns €18 million per year and is under contract until 2028, but believes his performances now merit improved terms. His representatives have approached the club, arguing that his salary no longer matches his global standing.

As per L’Équipe, Dembele’s deal includes a clause entitling him to a pay rise if he won the Ballon d’Or a clause PSG deny exists. His entourage, however, are urging the club to honour it, citing his individual success and Champions League-winning form.

Inside PSG, there is strong resistance to revisiting the lavish wage structure of the Neymar, Mbappé, and Messi era. Club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi and sporting director Luis Campos have adopted a stricter financial policy focused on balance and sustainability, with financial fair play also limiting their flexibility.

At €18m per year, Dembele is already PSG’s top earner, though that figure is modest compared to Neymar’s €30m or Mbappé’s former €70m salary. The winger isn’t asking for such sums but expects recognition for his consistency and leadership.

Negotiations remain amicable, with both sides aiming for an agreement before next season. Dembele who has scored 43 goals and provided 32 assists in 99 games since joining from Barcelona in 2023 wants to stay in Paris, but his contract talks could shape the future direction of the club’s financial policy.
