MBAPPE INJURY CONCERN

The France captain limped off late in the second half after scoring Madrid’s third goal. He appeared to twist his right ankle before sitting on the turf in visible discomfort but managed to walk off the pitch without assistance.

DESCHAMPS RESPONSE

Speaking at a news conference on Monday, Deschamps confirmed he had spoken with Mbappé but is awaiting a full assessment.

“I don’t have any further information at the moment. An update will be given as usual, regardless of the player or the club he comes from,” he said. “He had a small problem but it’s not too serious; otherwise, he wouldn’t be coming today.”

WHAT NEXT FOR FRANCE

France will host Azerbaijan at Parc des Princes on Friday before facing Iceland in Reykjavik on Monday. Deschamps’ side currently leads Group D after winning its first two qualifying matches.
