Paris Saint-Germain advisor Luis Campos has revealed Gianluigi Donnarumma’s salary demands were the decisive factor behind his shock transfer to Manchester City this summer.

The Italy international was sold on Deadline Day for £26m ($35.4m) after failing to agree a contract extension.
Donnarumma had already hinted at tensions, saying in August: “Someone has decided that I can no longer be part of the group.”
Manager Luis Enrique also admitted he preferred a “different profile” in goal, with Lucas Chevalier signed to take over.
Campos, however, told RMC Sport the decision was also financial. “When he asks for a salary at the level of PSG before, not the current PSG… The club is more important than anyone else,” he explained. PSG have shifted to a bonus-heavy pay structure, rewarding players for merit rather than guaranteed wages.

Donnarumma’s agent Enzo Raiola argued the keeper had already accepted a lower salary last season, only for the club to “change the rules of the game.” But Campos insisted the policy applies to everyone: “It’s not your past that will make you a starter at PSG. That’s our policy.”
The 25-year-old, a Euro 2020 winner with Italy, has already linked up with Pep Guardiola’s squad at City, where he is expected to challenge Ederson for the No.1 spot this season.
