Former Tottenham and Manchester United defender Sergio Reguilon is reportedly in talks to join Lionel Messi at Inter Miami as a free agent.

The 28-year-old Spaniard was released by Spurs in July after making just six appearances last season. Despite limited minutes, he ended his time in north London with 73 appearances, two goals and nine assists across all competitions, alongside loan spells at Atletico Madrid, Manchester United and Brentford.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Inter Miami are considering Reguilon as one of their final reinforcements ahead of the MLS playoffs, with the aim of completing the deal before the post-season begins on October 19. Miami are currently fourth in the Eastern Conference with 56 points and have already secured their playoff spot.

If the move goes through, Reguilon would bring much-needed defensive depth to a side that recently suffered a 5-3 defeat to Chicago Fire. The Spaniard could play a key role in Messi’s push to deliver Miami’s first-ever MLS Cup.

Miami return to action against New England Revolution this Sunday as their preparations for the playoffs continue.
