Louis Buffon follows in father’s footsteps with Serie A debut for Pisa

Louis Buffon, the 17-year-old son of legendary goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, made his Serie A debut for Pisa on Sunday exactly three decades after his father first stepped onto the same stage. The young winger featured in the closing stages of Pisa’s 4-0 defeat to Bologna at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara.

HISTORIC MOMENT FOR THE BUFFON FAMILY

Louis Buffon appearance marks a symbolic continuation of his father’s legacy. Thirty years after Gianluigi Buffon’s own Serie A debut, Louis became the next Buffon to grace Italy’s top flight, coming on as a 77th-minute substitute for M’Bala Nzola.

TOUGH NIGHT FOR PISA

Pisa’s return to Serie A has been far from smooth. Reduced to ten men after 36 minutes, they were overrun by Bologna, who struck through Nicolo Cambiaghi, Nikola Moro, Riccardo Orsolini, and Jens Odgaard. The defeat leaves Pisa winless after six games and struggling to adapt to top-flight football.

LOUIS BUFFON’S INTERNATIONAL PATH

Although born in Italy, Louis has represented Czechia at youth level through his mother’s heritage. However, he remains eligible to play for Italy and could still feature for the Azzurri at junior levels.

BUILDING FOR THE FUTURE

With Pisa back in Serie A for the first time since 1991, coach Alberto Gilardino is looking to integrate young talent like Buffon into his plans. The 17-year-old will aim to impress during the international break ahead of Pisa’s next league fixture against Verona on October 18.
