Vicky Lopez wins Kopa Trophy at 2025 Ballon d’Or, named best young women’s player in the world

Barcelona and Spain teenager Vicky Lopez has been awarded the prestigious Kopa Trophy at the 2025 Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris. The 19-year-old midfielder played a pivotal role for club and country, delivering silverware and standout performances on the biggest stages.

KOPA TROPHY GLORY

Lopez was officially named the best young women’s player in the world after lifting the Kopa Trophy. Her performances during Barcelona’s stunning season were decisive, as she helped the Catalan giants win both Liga F and the Copa de la Reina. On the international stage, she was just as influential, guiding Spain all the way to the Euro 2025 final.

BEATING ELITE COMPETITION

The 19-year-old edged out a strong field of rising stars to claim the award. Among those she surpassed were England’s Michelle Agyemang, Real Madrid’s Linda Caicedo, Chelsea’s Wieke Kaptein, and Club Olimpia and Paraguay standout Claudia Martinez.

Her victory further cements her reputation as one of the brightest talents in women’s football.

EMOTIONAL ACCEPTANCE SPEECH

In Paris, Lopez delivered a heartfelt speech as she collected her award. She expressed gratitude to her family and dedicated the trophy to her late mother:

“Thank you to my family. I dedicate this to my mother, who watches over me from heaven and is protecting me so I can become a better person. I hope you’re proud of me; I miss you.”

She also took time to recognize those who supported her journey, including her early days at Real Madrid, her national team, and Barcelona.

Lopez added a touching tribute to the pioneers of women’s football, acknowledging their role in making such recognition possible.

BARCELONA’S DOUBLE CELEBRATION

Lopez’s triumph completes a remarkable Kopa Trophy double for Barcelona. Teammate Lamine Yamal picked up the men’s prize, making it the second straight year he has claimed the honor.

The 18-year-old is also in contention for the men’s Ballon d’Or, further highlighting Barça’s dominance in nurturing young talent.
