Ansu Fati scores twice as Monaco beat Metz 5-2 in Ligue 1

Ansu Fati marked his first home game for AS Monaco with two goals as the Rouge et Blanc came from behind to beat Metz 5-2. The win keeps Adi Hütter’s side level on points with PSG, Lyon and Strasbourg at the top of Ligue 1.

EARLY SETBACK FOR MONACO

Despite starting aggressively, Monaco fell behind after just 13 minutes when Habib Diallo broke the offside trap to put Metz ahead. Philipp Köhn then had to make a key save to prevent a second goal.

BIERETH OPENS HIS ACCOUNT

Monaco responded through Mika Biereth, who equalised in the 28th minute with his first goal of the season, assisted by Takumi Minamino. The Danish forward nearly grabbed a second before halftime, but Jonathan Fischer kept him out.

ANSU FATI’S DREAM START

Introduced at the break, Ansu Fati made an immediate impact. Just 38 seconds into his Ligue 1 debut, he scored from close range to give Monaco the lead — becoming the fastest debut scorer in the league since 2014.

METZ FIGHT BACK

Metz refused to give in and levelled from the penalty spot through Gauthier Hein in the 67th minute. Adi Hütter turned to his bench again, bringing on George Ilenikhena and Stanis Idumbo to push for a winner.

LATE GOAL RUSH

Fati struck again in the 83rd minute with a diving header from Krépin Diatta’s cross. Metz then conceded an own goal via Koffi Kouao before Ilenikhena sealed the 5-2 win in stoppage time.

RECORDS AND NEXT MATCH

Fati became only the second Monaco player this century to score twice on his Ligue 1 debut, after Eliesse Ben Seghir in 2022. With the win, Monaco joined PSG, Lyon and Strasbourg on 12 points. Next up is an away trip to Lorient.
