Athletic Club came from behind to beat Qarabag 3-1 and claim their first Champions League win of the season.

Leandro Andrade fired the visitors ahead after just 48 seconds, capitalising on a mix-up between Aymeric Laporte and Aitor Paredes.

In doing so, the Cape Verdean midfielder made European football history becoming the first player ever to score in the opening minute of three different major competition matches.

Athletic Club hit back before half-time when Gorka Guruzeta finished calmly in the 40th minute.

The momentum carried into the second half, with substitute Robert Navarro curling in a superb strike just five minutes after replacing Nico Williams.

Moments later, Yuri Berchiche denied Qarabag an equaliser with a goal-line clearance before Guruzeta volleyed home his second of the night and third in as many Champions League games.

It marked just a second win in ten matches for Ernesto Valverde’s side, who had suffered defeats to Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund in their opening group fixtures.

Next up, Athletic Club travel to face Newcastle at St James’ Park on 5 November, while Qarabag host Chelsea in Baku the same day.
