Reports linking Chelsea with a blockbuster €150 million move for Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior have been played down following claims the Brazilian is unsettled in Spain.
Vinicius Jr’s future has been the subject of heavy speculation for months, with contract talks at Real Madrid still unresolved and his current deal running until 2027.
The winger has also been linked with a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia, while recent boos from supporters after Madrid’s winter break return further fuelled exit rumours.
Spanish outlets claimed Chelsea were preparing a major statement by tabling a €125m offer plus €25m in add-ons, with the Blues reportedly planning a fresh start under new head coach Liam Rosenior.
[Fabrizio Romano says] the rumours are wide of the mark. Speaking on YouTube, he said:
“Reports on Vinicius Jr and Chelsea are completely wide of the mark. No talks, no bid, no negotiations.”
Romano added that Vinicius Jr remains focused on Real Madrid, with his contract situation yet to be assessed.
Real Madrid returned from the winter break with a 5-1 win over Real Betis, a result that kept pressure on Barcelona in the La Liga title race.
Vinicius Jr failed to score and was substituted after fading in the match, drawing boos from the Bernabeu crowd.
Despite a previous public falling out, head coach Xabi Alonso defended his player after the game and stressed the importance of the victory in the title race.
Vinicius Jr’s long-term future remains unresolved, with competition for minutes increasing and his contract situation still unclear as speculation continues.
