Paris Saint-Germain could find themselves in direct competition with Barcelona on and off the pitch this season. While the two sides clash in the Champions League, reports in Spain claim PSG are monitoring defender Eric Garcia’s contract situation closely.

Barcelona’s past dealings with PSG have been bruising. Neymar’s world-record move triggered a costly rebuild, Lionel Messi eventually left for Paris, and just two years ago the French club activated Ousmane Dembele’s release clause. Now, Eric Garcia has emerged as the latest potential target.

According to Sport, PSG are keeping tabs as the defender’s contract runs down. Unless Barcelona tie him to a new deal within three months, Garcia would be free to sign a pre-contract agreement ahead of a summer move. Luis Enrique’s presence on the PSG bench could play a decisive role, having previously trusted Garcia with a starting spot for Spain.

Barcelona, however, remain optimistic. Talks are already underway, and Garcia’s increased importance under Hansi Flick suggests the club see him as part of their future. After agreeing new terms with Frenkie de Jong, securing Garcia’s renewal is understood to be a priority for sporting director Deco.
