According to reports from Fichajes, Manchester United are set to challenge Newcastle United for the signature of Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin this summer. The Ukrainian shot-stopper has emerged as a target as United boss Rúben Amorim looks to strengthen his squad ahead of the new season.
Lunin’s Season in La Liga
Lunin played an important backup role for Los Blancos last season, producing some solid displays when called upon. The 26-year-old featured in 14 matches across all competitions, conceding 19 goals and recording six clean sheets.
Despite his potential, Lunin has struggled for consistent first-team minutes behind Madrid’s established No.1. A move to Old Trafford could provide him the opportunity to become a regular starter and reignite his career at the top level.
Currently, the Ukrainian is contracted with Real Madrid until 2030, meaning Manchester United may have to negotiate a significant fee to lure him away from the Santiago Bernabéu.
Would Lunin Fit Into Amorim’s United?
Standing at 1.91m, Lunin brings a commanding presence between the posts. Known for his quick reflexes and safe hands, the Ukrainian keeper has all the tools to become a reliable shot-stopper in the Premier League.
At just 26, Lunin is entering his prime years, making him an attractive option for United’s long-term rebuild. His arrival could also put pressure on current No.1 André Onana, whose form has been inconsistent since joining the club.
If Amorim secures Lunin’s signature, it could significantly strengthen Manchester United’s defensive line and give them a major boost as they aim to return to European contention.
