Bruno Fernandes transfer Saudi and European clubs eye Man Utd captain ahead of January window

Manchester United could soon face a massive transfer decision regarding Bruno Fernandes, with several clubs reportedly preparing January offers for their under-fire captain.

Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal tested United’s resolve in the summer with a staggering £100 million bid, which both the club and Fernandes turned down. The midfielder, however, admitted he would not block a move if United ever decided to cash in. Despite being under contract until 2027, Fernandes is expected to attract renewed interest when the winter window reopens.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Saudi clubs remain determined to lure the 31-year-old playmaker with a tax-free salary worth £700,000 per week — more than double his current wages. With the Middle East already drawing several high-profile stars from Europe, Fernandes could be the next marquee target.

It isn’t just Saudi sides monitoring the situation. Several Champions League contenders are also keeping tabs, with Fernandes seen as a rare opportunity — a world-class attacking midfielder available mid-season and not cup-tied due to United’s absence from European competitions.

Fernandes’ role under manager Ruben Amorim has added fuel to the speculation. The Portuguese boss has deployed him in a deeper midfield position, limiting his attacking output and sparking criticism from fans and pundits alike. The United captain has shown visible frustration on the pitch, leading to questions over his long-term happiness at Old Trafford.

For United, the timing could hardly be worse. The club sits 14th in the Premier League after a disastrous start, collecting just seven points from six games and suffering an embarrassing Carabao Cup exit to Grimsby Town. With Sunderland visiting Old Trafford on Saturday, pressure is mounting on Amorim — and uncertainty around Fernandes’ future is only adding to the crisis.
