Chelsea’s negotiations for Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet have become increasingly complicated, with the French club holding firm on a club-record sale price.
[Fabrizio Romano reports] Chelsea are prepared to spend around £35m–£40m plus add-ons, but Rennes are refusing to drop their valuation.
“Jeremy Jacquet, complicated negotiation at this stage with Chelsea wanting to spend around £35m–£40m + add ons but Rennes are STILL insisting on club record sale price,” Romano said.
“Conversation still there, but getting difficult.”
Chelsea are understood to have alternative options on their shortlist and could instead recall young defenders Aaron Anselmino or Mamadou Sarr if a deal cannot be reached.
Interest in the 18-year-old French centre-back is growing, with multiple clubs now making enquiries, but Rennes are quoting the same high asking price to all suitors.
