Barcelona sporting director Deco has confirmed there is no financial penalty if the club decide not to sign Marcus Rashford permanently after his season-long loan from Manchester United.

The Catalan side brought in the England international as a fallback option after missing out on Nico Williams and Luis Díaz, agreeing a loan with a £26m (€30m/$35m) purchase option for next summer.

Rashford has made an electric start at Camp Nou, scoring twice against Newcastle in the Champions League and providing three La Liga assists in his first eight games.

Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, Deco said: “He’s on a simple loan, there’s no penalty, and if we want him, we have an option to buy. It’s too early to talk about next season, but what matters is that we’re happy with him.”

Despite the strong form, Rashford could face rotation this week as Hansi Flick ponders his lineup for Wednesday’s Champions League showdown with Paris Saint-Germain.

With teenager Lamine Yamal back from injury, Rashford may be dropped to the bench unless Flick rewards his recent performances with a surprise start.
