Tottenham have confirmed the signing of Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid, with the England international putting pen to paper on a long-term contract.
Spurs beat competition from Premier League rivals Aston Villa to secure the 25-year-old, with the deal providing a timely boost for Thomas Frank following Rodrigo Bentancur’s three-month injury setback.
Gallagher joined Atletico Madrid in 2024 after leaving Chelsea and made 50 appearances in his first season in Spain, scoring four goals.
However, his role under Diego Simeone diminished this term, with the midfielder making just four La Liga starts during the first half of the 2025-26 campaign.
Speaking to Tottenham’s official channels, Gallagher said he was “so happy and excited” to take the next step in his career and described the move as happening “very quickly”.
Thomas Frank praised Gallagher’s experience and leadership, highlighting his pressing ability, running power and goal threat as key attributes.
Tottenham’s interest in Gallagher has been long-standing but was previously blocked by his importance at Chelsea, with the opportunity reignited as his game time at Atletico dropped.
Aston Villa were also keen on the midfielder, but Spurs moved decisively to complete the deal.
Gallagher’s arrival also helps Tottenham replace Bentancur during his injury absence and adds another home-grown player to the squad following Brennan Johnson’s departure to Crystal Palace.
