Sevilla have won a major battle to keep one of Europe’s most sought-after young talents.
Midfielder Nico Guillén signed a new contract with the club this Friday, his 18th birthday. The deal runs until June 2029.
The move temporarily ends a intense pursuit from football’s elite. Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Manchester City were among the clubs interested.
His new contract includes an initial €20 million release clause. The clause can increase based on performance bonuses and future salary raises.
Guillén celebrated by training with the first team under coach Matías Almeyda. He has been in preseason training but awaits his official squad debut.
It’s possible, even probable, that after renewing his contract, he will finally include him in a list, perhaps the one that travels to Mallorca.
The Huelva native is a lifelong Sevilla academy product. He was recently named among The Guardian’s 60 top talents born in 2008.
