Manchester United face a big financial challenge if they want to keep Bruno Fernandes at Old Trafford, according to The Mirror.
The Portuguese midfielder is weighing his options and is expected to attract interest from several clubs once the season ends. Fernandes has reportedly become frustrated with the club’s management and ongoing changes in the coaching staff, having previously turned down a move to the Saudi Pro League last summer.
While Fernandes has praised interim manager Michael Carrick for his positive influence, he wants clarity on who will be appointed as the permanent manager before making a decision on his future. At 31, Fernandes is aware that his next contract could be the last major deal of his career, and he is seeking a significant financial package.
To convince him to stay, United may need to guarantee Champions League football and offer a weekly wage around £400,000, which would make him the club’s top earner. His current contract runs until 2027, with an option to extend for another year.
Fernandes knows his value to the team and intends to maximise it, but it remains unclear if Manchester United are ready to meet such demands.
