Manchester United have begun testing their multi-club partnership with INEOS-owned Lausanne Sport by loaning academy prospect Sekou Kone to the Swiss side.
The 19-year-old midfielder’s move is viewed internally as a litmus test to assess how effective the broader collaboration between the clubs can be for player development.
Kone Makes Instant Impression in Switzerland
According to Daily Mail, Kone has already made a strong impression at Lausanne. Coaches have been impressed by his technical quality and ball-winning ability after he trained with the first team throughout January.
He will have the chance to play in Europe, as Lausanne remain in the UEFA Conference League and face SK Sigma Olomouc in the play-off round. Kone could make his debut this weekend against St. Gallen.
A Strategic Move Amid United’s Midfield Planning
The loan holds added significance for United’s first-team planning. With Casemiro confirming his summer departure, the club is assessing midfield reinforcements.
United will monitor Kone’s progress closely in Switzerland, where he has linked up with fellow loanee Enzo Kana-Biyik, as they evaluate future options.

Part of a Broader Academy Loan Strategy
Kone’s move continues a proactive winter for United’s academy. He is among several young players sent out on loan, including Harry Amass, Toby Collyer, and Ethan Wheatley, to gain senior experience.
With no senior arrivals in January, the club’s focus remains on its current squad for the Premier League run-in, starting with Saturday’s match against Tottenham.
