Liverpool have decided against making a move for Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck as a potential replacement for Ibrahima Konate.
With Konate’s contract expiring at the end of the season and the Frenchman reportedly unwilling to sign an extension, the Reds are instead focusing their defensive recruitment elsewhere.
According to German outlet BILD, Schlotterbeck would be available for around €40 million this summer, but Liverpool are “not determined to get the deal done” despite their need for quality depth at centre-back.
Liverpool’s reluctance to pursue the 26-year-old German international suggests they remain hopeful of resolving Konate’s situation or have alternative targets in mind who better fit Arne Slot’s system.
Passing on a proven Bundesliga defender available for €40m tells you everything about Liverpool’s confidence in keeping Konate or their belief they can find better value elsewhere. Either way, this one’s going down to the wire.
