Liam Rosenior has confessed that he was prepared for mockery when he took on the role of Chelsea head coach, recognizing that his “unique background” set him apart from the usual top-tier managers.
The 41-year-old Englishman, who previously earned praise at sister club Strasbourg before stepping in for Enzo Maresca, has led Chelsea to an impressive seven victories in nine games. However, he has not been spared from online ridicule, including being likened to a sitcom character and facing jabs over his touchline performance during a midweek defeat at Arsenal.
Ahead of Chelsea’s upcoming match against Leeds United, Rosenior spoke candidly about the personal toll of the criticism: “I’m aware of it because I have teenage children who are active on social media. It affects them, my parents, and my family as a whole.”
He continued, saying, “I expected it… I come from a different kind of club and I have a different persona. My main concern is how it impacts my kids, not how it affects me.”
Despite the negative attention, Rosenior remains undeterred and focused on delivering results. He stressed that handling criticism is part of the job: “There’s no way you can succeed in this role if you let negativity get to you.”
