Rodri limps off early
Nico Gonzalez came on as Rodri’s replacement, but the midfielder was visibly shaken and walked straight down the tunnel. The sight of him holding his knee and sitting on the turf highlighted the severity of the setback.
Long history of knee problems
Rodri first suffered serious ACL ligament damage in September 2024, missing almost the entire season. He returned in May 2025 and featured in five Premier League matches, Champions League games, and the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, though his minutes have been closely managed.
Previously, he missed 53 games over 236 days, and this new issue raises fresh concerns for Pep Guardiola and Manchester City’s midfield stability.

Player reaction
Reflecting on his earlier ACL comeback, Rodri said:
“The reception from the fans was incredible. They were desperate for me to come back in the same way I was desperate to come back. The love they showed for me, my girlfriend, and my family makes me so proud. Everyone plays a part in being a successful club the fans, us, all the players and they’ve always been there for me, even in the bad moments.”
