It’s one of soccer’s fiercest rivalries, where loyalty is everything. But some of Liverpool’s biggest heroes, like Jamie Carragher, famously have blue roots. Now, legendary striker Robbie Fowler a man who scored 183 goals for the Reds has shared his own incredible Everton secret.
In a surprising reveal, Fowler admitted that before he became a Kop idol, he actually took the field for Everton’s youth side.
Fowler’s Blue Beginning: A Single Game for Everton
Speaking to Everton News, Fowler shared the story from when he was just 14 years old.
“Look, I grew up as an Everton fan. I think that’s common knowledge,” Fowler said, “but the first scout that came up to me was Jim Aspinall from Liverpool.”
But then came the twist.
“I actually played a game for Everton. I was 14 and played an U18 game. I came on as a substitute,” Fowler confessed. “I was tiny when I was 14, and I think we won the game. So, I have actually worn a shirt for Everton. I don’t think I’ve ever told anyone this.”

How Liverpool Won the Battle for Fowler
Fowler’s talent was obvious, and it sparked a tug-of-war between the two Merseyside giants. Everton pulled out all the stops to try and sign the young phenom.
“The Everton academy manager, Graham Smith, was sending me tickets for games, shorts signed by the players, shirts, and he just really wanted me to go to Everton,” Fowler recalled.
Despite the pressure and the gifts from Everton, it was Liverpool scout Jim Aspinall’s determination that ultimately won out, setting Fowler on the path to becoming a Reds legend.
