Manchester United are reportedly preparing contingency plans in case they decide to sack Ruben Amorim before the end of the season, with Darren Fletcher emerging as the leading candidate to take interim charge.

According to The Sun, the former United midfielder, now head coach of the under-18s, has impressed the club with his style and results since taking the role in June. He is viewed internally as a strong short-term option if Amorim is dismissed.
Amorim, who replaced Erik ten Hag midway through the 2024-25 season, has struggled to turn United’s fortunes around despite a £200m summer investment.
The Red Devils sit 14th in the table, with just 34 points from his 33 league games in charge. Criticism has mounted over his tactical stubbornness, while a potential early sacking would cost the club a £12m severance payout.

Other names linked include Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Michael Carrick, Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner, Gareth Southgate, and Barcelona legend Xavi.
United host newly-promoted Sunderland at Old Trafford on Saturday, with Amorim under increasing pressure to deliver a much-needed win.
