Manchester United’s dressing room is reportedly “astonished” by the team’s poor start to the 2025-26 season, with manager Ruben Amorim already under pressure.
United sit 14th in the Premier League after losing three of their first six matches, including a 3–1 defeat to Brentford. They were also knocked out of the Carabao Cup by fourth-tier Grimsby Town. The dismal opening follows heavy summer spending on attackers Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko aimed at sparking a revival.

According to The Sun, players were optimistic after a strong U.S. pre-season but are shocked by the slump. Amorim’s record since arriving in November 2024 stands at just nine wins and 34 points in 33 league games.
Speculation over replacements is already swirling. Joe Cole believes former England boss Gareth Southgate would be a “perfect” fit to rebuild the club’s culture if Amorim departs. Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano reports that ex-Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez is “studying” the Premier League and would be ready if United made an approach.
