Bruno Fernandes has been voted Premier League Player of the Matchweek for Matchweek 22 following his inspirational performance in Manchester United’s derby victory over Manchester City.
The United captain becomes the first player to win the award three times in a single season, having previously been voted Player of the Matchweek in Matchweeks 13 and 15.
Operating in his preferred No.10 role, Fernandes led by example at Old Trafford, recording the most tackles (four) of any player on the pitch and creating more chances than anyone else (six).
After having both a goal and an assist ruled out for offside in the first half, the Portuguese midfielder eventually delivered the decisive moment by setting up Bryan Mbeumo for the opening goal.
Everything Manchester United did well flowed through Fernandes as they secured their first home derby win against City since January 2023.
After the match, interim head coach Michael Carrick said of Fernandes:
“I thought he was fantastic, the way he played the position. He made the difference.”
Fernandes claimed 63 per cent of the fan vote, comfortably ahead of team-mate Kobbie Mainoo on 21 per cent.
The other nominees were West Ham’s Crysencio Summerville (six per cent), Everton midfielder James Garner (four per cent), Sunderland’s Nordi Mukiele (three per cent) and Burnley goalkeeper Martin Dubravka (three per cent).
It marks the seventh time a Manchester United player has won the award this season, following previous successes for Harry Maguire, Bryan Mbeumo, Patrick Dorgu, Benjamin Sesko and Fernandes himself earlier in the campaign.
