Lionel Messi has officially extended his stay with Inter Miami, signing a new contract that will keep him at the Major League Soccer club until the end of the 2028 season.

Inter Miami confirmed the news with a video of Messi signing his new deal while seated in the middle of the club’s under-construction Freedom Park stadium, captioned simply: “He’s Home.”

“It makes me really happy to stay here and to continue with this project that, besides being a dream, has become a beautiful reality,” Messi said. “Since I arrived in Miami, I’ve been very happy, so I’m truly glad to keep going here.”

Club co-owner David Beckham said Messi’s decision to renew his contract reflected his deep commitment to Inter Miami and the city. “He’s still as committed as he’s ever been and he still wants to win,” Beckham said. “We feel very lucky to have a player that inspires the next generation of young talent.”

Messi’s new deal extends his career well beyond the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The Argentine superstar joined Inter Miami in 2023 after leaving Paris Saint-Germain, transforming both the club and the league. His arrival sparked record ticket sales, attendances, and global attention for MLS.

“When Lionel Messi made MLS his league of choice, it marked a turning point not just for Inter Miami, but for our entire sport in North America,” said MLS Commissioner Don Garber.

Messi’s glittering career includes 10 La Liga titles and four Champions League triumphs with Barcelona, as well as World Cup and Copa America glory with Argentina. The 38-year-old has scored 114 international goals and remains just three short of Miroslav Klose’s World Cup scoring record.

He was crowned MLS MVP in 2024 and became the fastest player to reach 40 goals in league history the following year.

This season, Messi led Inter Miami back into the playoffs, finishing with 29 goals in 28 matches to win the MLS Golden Boot after a hat-trick in a 5-2 victory over Nashville SC.

With Messi now tied to Miami until 2028, fans are already dreaming about what more the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner could achieve in pink and black.
