Tottenham Launch £87m Bid to Land Rodrygo as Son Nears MLS Switch

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly made a bold move in the summer transfer window, submitting a £87 million (€100 million) offer for Real Madrid winger Rodrygo. The North London club is looking to reinforce its attacking options as club captain Son Heung-min closes in on a move to Major League Soccer side Los Angeles FC.

Spurs Eye Rodrygo as Successor to Son Heung-min

With Son’s imminent departure, Spurs are actively pursuing a high-caliber forward to fill the void. According to reports from Spanish outlet Fichajes, the club has identified Rodrygo as a prime candidate and have already tabled a formal offer for the Brazilian attacker.

The 24-year-old has built a reputation as a “world-class” talent during his time at the Santiago Bernabéu, but his long-term future at the Spanish giants is now uncertain. Despite his quality, Rodrygo was not a prominent part of new head coach Xabi Alonso’s plans during the Club World Cup, where he managed only 92 minutes across three appearances.

Rodrygo Wary of Tottenham Switch

While Tottenham are keen to secure Rodrygo’s services, the Brazilian is reportedly hesitant about the move. Sources suggest the forward believes a transfer to Spurs could be a step down in his career trajectory. Instead, he may prefer to wait for interest from a club with stronger Champions League credentials or title-winning potential.

Although Rodrygo is aware that his role at Real Madrid has diminished — especially after being overtaken in the pecking order by Arda Güler — he still has a desire to stay and fight for his place. However, a permanent exit is not off the table, especially if he continues to face limited minutes in the upcoming campaign.

Spurs Continue Aggressive Summer Business

Tottenham have already been among the more active Premier League clubs in the current transfer window, spending around £120 million to reshape their squad under manager Ange Postecoglou. New additions include Austria defender Kevin Danso, promising Bayern Munich attacker Mathys Tel, and Ghanaian playmaker Mohammed Kudus from West Ham.

Their ambitious recruitment drive hit a snag recently, though, as their pursuit of Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White ended unsuccessfully. The English midfielder opted to sign a fresh three-year deal with Forest, despite Spurs’ interest.

What’s Next for Rodrygo and Spurs?

The ball is now in Rodrygo’s court. While Real Madrid may be open to negotiating a deal, the player’s own reluctance could stall Spurs’ efforts to bring him to North London. However, with Son’s exit drawing closer, Tottenham are likely to continue pushing for elite-level reinforcements to keep their European hopes alive.

Whether Rodrygo accepts the challenge at Tottenham or waits for another suitor remains to be seen, but one thing is clear — Spurs are not holding back in their quest for a major statement signing.
