Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has discussed recent speculation linking Erling Haaland with Barcelona ahead of the club’s upcoming Premier League clash. The Premier League leaders are returning to domestic action this weekend after a 2-2 draw away to AS Monaco in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.

Haaland scored twice in the first half to give City the lead, only for Monaco to fight back, with a Nico Gonzalez error leading to a VAR-awarded penalty converted by Eric Dier. Despite dominating parts of the second half, City could not extend their advantage, leaving Guardiola eager for a return to winning ways against West London opposition.

Guardiola is expected to face a similar injury situation as in Europe, with Abdukodir Khusanov, Rayan Ait-Nouri, and Omar Marmoush unavailable. Rayan Cherki may also be rested as part of his hamstring recovery.

Addressing Haaland’s future, Guardiola said, “Can you tell me one club who would not want Erling Haaland as a dream signing? Barcelona want him, and all the top teams do. He has a long contract with us and is performing brilliantly, scoring many goals.” He added, “Erling is not stupid enough to sign something he wouldn’t want to achieve. But football, who knows what will happen next?”

On Phil Foden’s return after mental health struggles, Guardiola praised his openness and progress: “Phil has been honest about his struggles, and seeing his joy in training and the locker room is what matters most. Being healthy and enjoying the game is the priority. His quality on the pitch will follow naturally.”

Guardiola highlighted the club’s supportive environment, saying, “We are always there for players like Phil, unconditionally. Human beings come first. The performance will follow when the player feels good mentally and physically.”
