Florian Wirtz has been warned patience may be starting to wear thin at Liverpool following a slow start to life at Anfield after his £116m move from Bayer Leverkusen.
The Germany international is still waiting for his first goal for the Reds, with former Liverpool midfielder Didi Hamann suggesting he now needs to start delivering consistently.
Wirtz has recorded three assists in all competitions but has yet to make the expected impact, despite Liverpool backing the playmaker to adapt to the Premier League.
Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has publicly defended Wirtz, insisting improvement is clear despite the lack of goals.
“Florian has improved a lot,” Slot said, pointing to his physical development and increased effectiveness in duels and transitions.
[Sky90 reports] Hamann has been far less convinced, claiming Wirtz’s best performances have come in the Champions League, where the tempo and physicality differ.
“It’s Christmas now and he still hasn’t scored a goal,” Hamann said, adding that the club has so far protected the player.
Hamann warned that Liverpool may soon have to challenge Wirtz directly to prove he belongs at the club.
He also ruled out a January exit but admitted Wirtz’s form could become a concern for Germany ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Wirtz could get a chance to end his drought when Liverpool face Wolves at Anfield, with the visitors struggling this season.
With Mohamed Salah and Alexander Isak unavailable, the fixture presents an opportunity for Wirtz to step up and make his mark.
