According to The Sun, the former United midfielder, now head coach of the under-18s, has impressed the club with his style and results since taking the role in June. He is viewed internally as a strong short-term option if Amorim is dismissed.
Amorim, who replaced Erik ten Hag midway through the 2024-25 season, has struggled to turn United’s fortunes around despite a £200m summer investment.
