Salah lifts Liverpool to Premier League history

Liverpool wrote another chapter of Premier League history at Turf Moor, where Mohamed Salah’s stoppage-time penalty sealed a dramatic win over Burnley. The result marked their fourth straight late victory, making them the first top-flight side ever to achieve such a feat.

LATE GOALS DEFINE LIVERPOOL’S START

The champions opened their 2025–26 campaign against Bournemouth, squandering a two-goal lead before Federico Chiesa and Salah struck after the 88th minute to secure the win. That comeback was followed by Rio Ngumoha’s 100th-minute winner at Newcastle in a thrilling five-goal clash.

Arne Slot’s men then edged Arsenal at Anfield thanks to Dominik Szoboszlai’s stunning 83rd-minute free-kick. And at Turf Moor, with time running out, Hannibal Mejbri’s handball gifted Salah the decisive chance from the spot. He made no mistake, converting in the 95th minute.

According to official Premier League records, Liverpool are now the first team to win four consecutive games with goals scored in the final 10 minutes or later.

SALAH CLIMBS ALL-TIME CHARTS

Salah’s penalty did more than secure victory. It was his 188th Premier League goal, moving him into fourth place in the league’s all-time scoring chart. He surpassed Manchester United legend Andy Cole, who finished his career with 187.

The Egyptian now trails only Wayne Rooney (208), Harry Kane (213), and Alan Shearer (260). With 20 more goals this season, Salah could realistically catch Rooney, while Kane’s tally is also within range before his current Liverpool contract runs until 2027.

RECORD-BREAKING PENALTY FOR THE REDS

Salah also set a new Liverpool record by scoring his 35th penalty in club colours. That figure lifts him clear of Billy Liddell, who had held the record with 34 spot-kicks since the post-Second World War era.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR LIVERPOOL

Liverpool’s remarkable start faces two immediate tests. First comes a midweek Champions League opener against Atlético Madrid, followed by a highly anticipated Merseyside derby against Everton at Anfield. Both fixtures will provide another opportunity for Salah to continue his scoring run and for Arne Slot’s team to showcase their resilience.
