The Football Association (FA) has issued a formal reminder to Sir Jim Ratcliffe, co-owner of Manchester United, of his responsibilities as a club owner following controversial anti-immigration comments posted on social media.
On February 18, 2026, Ratcliffe shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) criticizing UK immigration policies and the Labour government, stating that “mass immigration is destroying the country” and questioning the handling of border control and public services. The comments drew widespread attention and criticism for their tone and content.
In response, the FA contacted Ratcliffe to highlight the expectations placed on individuals in senior football positions. An FA spokesperson confirmed:
“We have reminded Sir Jim Ratcliffe of his responsibilities under FA rules as a participant in the game. The FA expects all those involved in football to uphold the highest standards of behaviour.”
The reminder does not constitute a formal charge or sanction but serves as a warning about conduct that could bring the game into disrepute under FA Rule E3 (misconduct).
Ratcliffe, who holds a 28.9% stake in Manchester United through INEOS and oversees football operations, is considered a “relevant participant” under FA regulations.
No further action has been announced, and Ratcliffe has not publicly commented on the FA’s intervention.
The incident comes amid ongoing scrutiny of Manchester United’s performance under manager Ruben Amorim and Ratcliffe’s cost-cutting measures at the club.
