David Raya earns improved Arsenal deal as Gunners reward top form

Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya has been rewarded for his outstanding form with an improved contract running until 2028.

[BBC Sport reports] the new deal was agreed earlier this summer but is yet to be officially announced by the club. It is understood the contract increases Raya’s pay from his previous £100,000-per-week terms.

The Spanish international’s agreement does not extend his stay, mirroring Arsenal’s approach with Leandro Trossard, whose improved deal still expires in 2027.

Raya joined Arsenal permanently in 2024 for a reported £27m after an initial £3m loan from Brentford. Since then, he has become a cornerstone of Mikel Arteta’s side.

He has kept 33 clean sheets since debuting in September 2023 — six more than any other Premier League keeper — and boasts a 71% save rate, behind only Alisson, Nick Pope, and Jordan Pickford.

Raya also shared last season’s Golden Glove with Nottingham Forest’s Matz Sels after previously winning it outright in 2023-24.

[BBC Sport adds] that Arsenal have opened talks with Jurrien Timber over a long-term deal and remain hopeful Bukayo Saka will also commit soon.

Jamie Carragher wrote earlier this season that Arsenal’s title hopes will “be built on the consistent excellence of William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes and David Raya.”

Saliba and Gabriel have already extended their contracts, with the Frenchman signing a five-year deal and Gabriel committing until 2029.

Raya is now set to join Spain for World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Bulgaria before returning to help Arsenal continue their title push.
