Arsenal came from behind with two late goals to seal a dramatic 2–1 win over Newcastle United at St. James’ Park on Sunday evening.

The Gunners trailed at half-time through Nick Woltemade’s opener but fought back with goals from Mikel Merino and Gabriel Magalhães to claim all three points.

Mikel Arteta’s side dominated early passages, only to be denied repeatedly by goalkeeper Nick Pope and VAR intervention.

Newcastle struck first via a clever corner routine finished by Woltemade, leaving Arsenal frustrated at the break. However, the visitors’ second-half pressure eventually told.

Merino’s header from Declan Rice’s delivery levelled matters, before Gabriel rose highest to nod home Martin Ødegaard’s corner late on.

The victory keeps Arsenal firmly in the Premier League title chase.

Speaking post-match, Arteta hailed his side’s resilience:

“The message was clear at half-time — keep pushing, keep believing. The boys showed great spirit to turn it around in a very tough place.”
