Martin Odegaard injury Arsenal captain suffers fresh knee setback after West Ham win

Arsenal skipper Martin Odegaard’s plans to join up with Norway have been halted after sustaining a new knee injury in the 2-0 win over West Ham.

The midfielder was forced off during the first half after a collision with Crysencio Summerville and, despite twice trying to continue, signalled he could not go on. He was later seen leaving the Emirates in a knee brace, prompting Arsenal to cancel his private flight to Norway, according to football.london.

Odegaard, who had only just recovered from a shoulder issue, was hoping to build momentum ahead of the October international break. Norway are due to face Israel in a crucial World Cup qualifier next weekend, but his participation now appears doubtful as the national side awaits updates from Arsenal’s medical team.

After the game, Mikel Arteta admitted the situation was worrying. “He’s not feeling great right now, and we’ll need to assess it properly before making any decisions,” the Arsenal boss said.

The injury marks the third consecutive home match in which Odegaard has been forced off, adding to the Gunners’ growing list of fitness problems. Arsenal’s medical staff will continue evaluations over the coming days to determine the extent of the damage, with fears he could face another spell on the sidelines.
