Alvaro Negredo warns Man Utd over Benjamin Sesko treatment after £74m move

Alvaro Negredo has hit out at Manchester United’s treatment of £74 million striker Benjamin Sesko, warning that placing the burden of winning games on his shoulders will only damage the 22-year-old’s development.

Sesko arrived from RB Leipzig this summer with huge expectations, but he has struggled to adapt under Ruben Amorim. His first goal came in a 3-1 defeat to Brentford, a game that underlined his struggles, while his derby display against Manchester City raised serious concerns after he managed just eight completed passes and won only three of nine duels.

Negredo, who knows the pressure of a big-money move from his time at Manchester City, believes United must show patience. Speaking to CoinPoker, he said: “Benjamin Sesko is a young player… it is unfair to give so much responsibility to such a young boy. When a striker scores, he always feels better about himself. Above all, it’s about patience. They cannot be asked to win games alone.”

Sesko’s slow start has only added to the pressure on Amorim, who also brought in Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo during the summer. With the £74m price tag looming large, the spotlight will be on Sesko again when United face Sunderland on October 4.

The Slovenian will then join up with his national side for World Cup qualifiers against Kosovo and Switzerland on October 10 and 13, hoping that international duty can help him rediscover his scoring touch away from the glare of Old Trafford.
