Son Heung-min wasted no time making an impact in Major League Soccer. The South Korean superstar scored his first MLS goal in spectacular fashion — a world-class free kick that gave LAFC an early lead in a 1-1 draw against FC Dallas. Son’s first MLS goal lights up Dallas
LAFC star Son Heung-min finally opened his scoring account in the United States — and he did it in style. Just six minutes into Saturday night’s match against FC Dallas, Son curled in a perfect free kick that left the keeper with no chance.
“It’s only been a couple of weeks, but I’m enjoying every moment,” Son told MLS Season Pass after the game.
“I’m glad I got my first MLS goal for LAFC, but honestly, I’m disappointed we didn’t take all three points.”
Dallas responds quickly
The home side didn’t stay behind for long. In the 13th minute, Logan Farrington scored his fifth goal of the season to bring Dallas level, assisted by Patrickson Delgado. Despite several chances, neither team could find a winner, and the game ended 1-1.
A strong start to life in MLS
Son has hit the ground running since arriving from Tottenham Hotspur in a record deal earlier this month.
On his debut, he won a late penalty to secure a draw at Chicago Fire.
In his second game, he notched his first MLS assist in a 2-0 win over New England Revolution.
Now, in his third match, he’s scored a goal that teammate Nkosi Tafari described as “hang it in the Louvre.”
“First three games — a penalty, an assist, and now that free kick,” Tafari said. “I don’t know what’s next, but he’s been phenomenal.”
LAFC on the rise
The draw keeps LAFC unbeaten since Son’s arrival, moving them to fourth place in the Western Conference standings with 41 points (11W-6L-8D).
With playoffs in sight, head coach Steve Cherundolo praised Son’s impact.
“He’s a competitor, a winner, and brings qualities that few in this league have,” Cherundolo told reporters. “He’s given us a real spark.”
Looking ahead
LAFC will return home next weekend for a highly anticipated clash against San Diego FC at BMO Stadium — Son’s first home game since joining the Black & Gold.
