Paul Pogba praised by Monaco team-mate after comeback

Paul Pogba has been praised as a “world-class player” and a humble presence by Monaco team-mate Lamine Camara following his return to football.

The former Manchester United and Juventus midfielder joined Monaco this summer after nearly two years out of the game, with his initial four-year doping ban reduced on appeal.

Pogba officially left Juventus in November 2024 after his contract was terminated by mutual consent, before opting to sign for Monaco and play domestic football in France for the first time in his career.

After regaining fitness, Pogba made his long-awaited return on November 22, coming off the bench in a 4-1 defeat away to Rennes.

[The Guardian reports] Camara has spoken about Pogba’s influence behind the scenes, describing him as a major dressing-room presence despite ongoing injury issues.

“We know he is a world-class player, but he doesn’t show that in the dressing room,” Camara said. “He is always humble and stays true to himself.”

Camara added that Pogba’s experience will be vital for Monaco this season and admitted he has also discussed African heritage and culture with the midfielder.

Despite frequent transfer speculation, Camara insists he is focused on Monaco, where he feels settled under head coach Sebastien Pocognoli.

Monaco head into the winter break ninth in Ligue 1, nine points off the Champions League places, having lost five of their last six league matches.

Pocognoli remains cautious over Pogba’s fitness but praised his comeback, saying: “To have come back from where he was and to play again is already spectacular.”

Pogba featured as a late substitute in Monaco’s recent 1-0 home win over Paris Saint-Germain and will hope to play a bigger role during the second half of the season.
