Real Madrid’s Fixture Appeal Rejected – LaLiga Opener Against Osasuna to Go Ahead

Madrid, Spain – Real Madrid’s request to postpone their opening LaLiga match against Osasuna has been officially denied by the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), ensuring the game will proceed as scheduled on August 19 at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Why Did Real Madrid Want a Postponement?

The club had sought a later start to their league campaign, citing a need for extended rest and pre-season preparation following their participation in the Club World Cup in the U.S. earlier in July. Their campaign ended with a semi-final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on July 9, leaving them with a shorter recovery window before LaLiga kicks off.

RFEF’s Firm Decision

An RFEF judge dismissed the appeal, stating that only a “force majeure” situation—an unforeseeable emergency—could justify altering the league calendar. The ruling emphasized that Real Madrid’s request did not meet this strict criteria.

Additionally, despite claims that Osasuna agreed to the delay, the judge noted there was no official confirmation from the Pamplona-based club supporting the rescheduling.

What This Means for Real Madrid

With the appeal rejected, Carlo Ancelotti’s squad must now prepare for an immediate return to competitive action without extra rest. Fans will be eager to see if fatigue plays a role in their early-season form.
