Raul Asencio plays on with tibia injury as Real Madrid face defensive crisis

Raul Asencio has decided to keep playing for Real Madrid despite suffering a fissure in his tibia, accepting the medical risk to remain available during a crucial stretch of the season, according to MARCA.

The young centre-back is expected to feature against Villarreal and Benfica, even though doctors have warned that full recovery would require six to eight weeks of rest. Stopping for that period would allow the injury to heal properly and lower the risk of serious damage.

Those close to the situation say Asencio was clearly informed of the danger before making his decision.

“I’m not stopping now,” the defender reportedly said when rest was suggested.

Real Madrid’s limited defensive options have played a major role in the decision. Eder Militao remains sidelined long term, Antonio Rudiger is unavailable, David Alaba is still not at full fitness, and Aurelien Tchouameni is also absent. That has left Asencio and Dean Huijsen as the club’s main centre-back options.

Medical experts have warned of the consequences. Doctor Pedro Luis Ripoll explained that continuing to play with sustained mechanical stress could cause the fissure to widen, increasing the likelihood of a fracture. If that happens, recovery could take several months.

Despite the risk, Asencio is determined to continue. The defender wants to maintain his form, hold his place in Alvaro Arbeloa’s plans, and stay in the picture for future international selection, with the World Cup also on his radar.
