Barcelona prodigy Lamine Yamal has confirmed his breakup with Argentine singer Nicki Nicole, insisting the couple has “merely parted ways.”

The 18-year-old’s relationship with the pop star had been a social media sensation, with the pair often sharing moments from their romance on Instagram and TikTok. But Yamal revealed that their relationship has now come to an end.

Their love story reportedly began around Yamal’s 18th birthday in July, with Nicole attending his celebrations and later appearing in the stands to support him during Barcelona’s 6-1 Champions League win over Olympiacos.

The couple’s public appearances from cosy dinners to helicopter rides made them one of football’s most talked-about young couples. In September, Nicole admitted she was “very in love” and even learned to say “t’estimo” (“I love you” in Catalan).

However, rumours of a breakup surfaced after Spanish tabloids linked Yamal to Italian influencer Anna Gegnoso following a trip to Milan. Addressing those reports, the Barcelona forward told D Corazon (via Sport):

“We are not together, but it has not been because of any infidelity. We have simply separated and that’s it. Everything that is coming out has nothing to do with our relationship.”

Away from the headlines, Yamal is managing a groin injury diagnosed as pubalgia the same issue Lionel Messi battled early in his career.

Barcelona boss Hansi Flick offered reassurance ahead of Sunday’s La Liga clash with Elche, confirming: “He’s fine. Some days he still feels a bit of pain, but he’s progressing well.”

The Catalan giants trail Real Madrid by eight points with a game in hand and will be hoping to respond after the league leaders’ 4-0 win over Valencia.
