Taylor Swift has surprised football fans by referencing Real Madrid in her newly-released album The Life of a Showgirl.

The 14-time Grammy winner dropped the album on October 3, and one track, Wi$h Li$t, has caught global attention. In the song, Swift sings: “They want it all. They want a contract with Real Madrid…” — a lyric that has delighted Madridistas and stirred speculation about its meaning.

While it remains unclear who Swift was referring to, many believe she used Real Madrid as a metaphor for ultimate ambition and success, likening it to a footballer’s dream of joining Los Blancos.

This isn’t Swift’s first connection with Madrid. In May 2024, she performed back-to-back sold-out shows at the newly-renovated Santiago Bernabeu during her Eras Tour. Those concerts were hailed as a financial win for the club but sparked complaints from local residents about excessive noise levels.

Meanwhile, on the pitch, Xabi Alonso’s Madrid side bounced back from last weekend’s 5-2 derby defeat to Atletico with a Champions League victory over Kairat Almaty. The focus now turns to Saturday’s La Liga clash with Villarreal, who sit just two points behind Los Blancos in third.
