Frenkie de Jong has officially signed a new contract with FC Barcelona, extending his stay at the club until 2029.
The Dutch midfielder put pen to paper on Wednesday at the club’s headquarters, joined by president Joan Laporta, vice president Rafael Yuste, sporting director Deco, and other members of the Sporting Commission.
De Jong described the renewal as the continuation of a lifelong dream. “I have always dreamed of playing for Barça,” he said, adding that he hopes “this dream continues for many more years.”
He also praised the positive atmosphere under coach Hansi Flick. “My relationship with the mister has been good from the first moment. He has always said that he believes in me, and he has shown that,” De Jong shared.
Since joining Barça from Ajax in 2019, De Jong has become a mainstay in midfield despite various coaching changes. The 28-year-old has made 46 appearances in the 2024/25 season, scoring twice, and has already won two league titles, two Copas del Rey, and two Super Cups.
Barcelona view De Jong as a key part of their sporting project, with the midfielder closing in on Phillip Cocu’s record for most appearances by a Dutch player at the club.
